The quaint town of Lovell recently welcomed Canadian musician Michael Gabriel, who is on a unique tour live-streaming songs from various locations across the lower 48 states of the U.S. Gabriel, accompanied by his loyal dog Shep, made a memorable stop at the Lovell-Kane Museum, thanks to the efforts of museum board president Karen Spragg and her team of dedicated volunteers.

Gabriel’s tour is not just a series of performances; it’s a journey to connect with communities and share the universal language of music. From his van, which doubles as his home, Gabriel live-streams concerts on his Facebook page, allowing followers from around the world to join in the experience. His soulful music, often compared to the works of Jim Croce and James Taylor, resonates deeply with audiences, drawing out genuine emotions and forging connections across distances.

“Music is the universe’s language,” Gabriel said. “It helps us find our souls and brings happiness and true emotions out of each one of us. Through this tour, I aim to spread that connection and positivity wherever I go.”

Traveling with his German Shepherd-Husky mix Shep, Gabriel’s lifestyle is as unique as his tour. Camping in areas that exude positive and healthy energy, Gabriel and Shep embrace the freedom and simplicity of van life.

“Shep is less of a pet and more of a roommate at this point,” Gabriel said with a laugh.

Welcoming Lovell

Lovell embraced Gabriel with open arms. The community’s friendliness and hospitality left a lasting impression on the musician. For a week, Gabriel explored the town, enjoying its warm atmosphere and positive energy. His stay was highlighted by the live-streamed concert at the museum, a venue known for its rich history and community involvement.

Spragg expressed her delight in hosting Gabriel.

“We were honored to have Michael perform here, and the community was thrilled to be a part of it,” Spragg said.

The museum is dedicated to preserving local history and fostering community spirit, making it a fitting backdrop for Gabriel’s heartfelt performance. Gabriel’s choice to perform at the museum was driven by a strong positive impression after his initial conversation with Spragg.

“Karen made it so easy for me to go in there and play. She just said yes to everything and even came in after hours. After that phone call, I just knew I was going to do a stream there because she was just so great.”

The power of music and community

Gabriel’s journey underscores the profound impact of music. It transcends boundaries, touching souls and evoking a sense of shared humanity. His tour, which emphasizes live streaming from diverse and often unique locations, is a testament to the unifying power of music. Whether performed in a historic museum or a remote campground, Gabriel’s music brings people together, creating moments of joy and happiness.

Gabriel’s experience in Lovell was enhanced by the friendly local faces he encountered. He played at the New Horizons Care Center, where the residents welcomed him warmly.

“The people there were just so welcoming and inviting,” Gabriel shared. “It was an amazing experience.”

Facing challenges
on the road

Touring in a van presents its own set of challenges. Gabriel shared how unpredictable the road can be, recounting various moments when things went south.

“There are times when the van breaks down or when the living conditions get tough,” he explained. “But every time, I find that the universe sends the right people at the right time to help.”

On his last day in Lovell, Gabriel faced a significant challenge when his van broke down. Stranded and unsure how he would make it to his next gig in Jackson, he was fortunate to find a kind local mechanic.

“Without the help from the locals, I wouldn’t have been able to make it to my next gig,” he said. “That’s the power of community and music. It brings people together in unexpected ways.”

The support Gabriel receives from locals across the country is a testament to the power of music and human kindness, he said, noting, “The best moments are when you least expect it, and someone steps in to help. It’s those moments that remind me why I’m doing this tour.”

Michael Gabriel’s visit to Lovell was more than a tour stop; it was a celebration of community, music and the shared human experience. As he continues his journey across the United States, each town, like Lovell, adds a new chapter to his story, enriching both his life and the lives of those he touches with his music.

“Anthony Hopkins once said, ‘Keep going,’ and that has been my mantra for this tour,” Gabriel reflected. “No matter what happens, just keep going.”
