UW Alumni network leader Shelly Gams recognized
Shelly Gams, native of Cowley and a Lovell High School graduate, was recently recognized in “UWyo, The Magazine for Alumni and Friends of the University of Wyoming” for her work as a UW Alumni Association Network Leader. The article from the Winter 2026 edition reads as follows:
Shelly Gams is a dedicated supporter of the University of Wyoming. Her attention to detail, organizational skills and genuine enthusiasm make everything she does shine. As a UW Alumni Association Network Leader based in Billings, Mon., she ensures that UW alumni in Montana have a vibrant welcoming community where they can stay connected to each other and to the university they love.
For over two decades, Gams has been a driving force behind alumni activities in Montana, leading the Billings Alumni Network with remarkable energy and passion. Under Gams’ leadership, the Billings network has flourished. She has organized countless events such as watch parties for Cowboy football and basketball games where alumni can gather to cheer on the Brown and Gold. She planned an event at the Northern International Livestock Expo’s Nile Ranch Rodeo and introduced “Pokes at the Park,” a collaboration with the Billings Mustangs baseball team. She has also served on the UWAA Board of Directors.
Originally from Cowley, Wyo., Gams is a 1993 graduate of the College of Business with a degree in business administration and a minor in psychology. She has built a distinguished career as a certified financial planner who owns her own financial services company and has been recognized by the Accounting and Financial Women’s Alliance as a Woman of Influence. She volunteers with numerous nonprofit organizations and contributes articles on financial planning to a number of publications.
Gams’ enthusiastic dedication to creating community for Wyoming alumni has made a significant impact on our UW family.
“If you like Wyoming – you love Wyoming – you’re more than welcome to come into our little fold up here,” Gams says.
Gams told the Chronicle in an email, “I am honored to be recognized at the UWAA Alumni Dinner as a Network Leader, a moment I’m truly grateful for. Supporting the University of Wyoming and helping build a strong alumni community here in Montana has been incredibly meaningful to me. From organizing events to creating spaces for connection, it’s always been about bringing people together around our shared Cowboy pride. Thank you to the University of Wyoming Alumni Association and everyone who helped make this event possible.”
