Virginia June Larson Thompson

June 4, 1941 – July 6, 2026

Virginia June Larson Thompson, 85, creator of beauty, left this life July 6, 2026, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She died from complications of a recent fall. 

Virginia was born to Albin and Lillian (Flom) Larson in Webster, South Dakota, June 4, 1941. She spent her younger years living on her father’s turkey farm and going to a one-room school house in Roslynn, South Dakota. After high school she moved to Rapid City, South Dakota, where she attended business college. 

She met Jay Thompson, an Air Force airplane mechanic, on a blind date. They were married within the year. Five children were born to them. Besides South Dakota, they lived in Utah, Wyoming and Indiana. 

Virginia enjoyed various jobs while living in Lovell. She was a meticulous accountant, making it a personal challenge to perfectly balance the books at her various jobs.

Virginia’s favorite hobby was interior decorating. She had an eye for beauty, especially in choosing fine furnishings. She and Jay built two of the homes they lived in while in Lovell. Virginia enjoyed sewing curtains, wall-papering and purchasing and arranging fine furniture until each room met her specifications of beauty.

Virginia was a soft-spoken, kind, gentle women. 

She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Greenwald.

Virginia is survived by her husband, five children, 19 grandchildren and two brothers Dave and Rick Larson. 

 Funeral services will be held Friday, July 17, at 11 a.m. at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell. A viewing will be at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Lovell Cemetery.
