The Cal S. Taggart Visitor Center for the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area in Lovell is closed.

A sign on the door reads that the visitor center is “temporarily closed,” and a post on the Bighorn Canyon Facebook page states that the visitor center is “currently closed” and continues that “the rest of the recreation area remains open and accessible for your enjoyment” and directs visitors to check the official “BICA” website for the latest updates.

Unofficially, the visitor center is reportedly closed due to staff layoffs from the Elon Musk Department of Government Efficiency purge of employees on probationary status, but a request for information from the National Park Service Public Affairs Division was said to be referred to the National Park Service Office of Communications, and no response was received by press deadline Wednesday.

Other offices in the visitor center are open for employees working in other areas than visitor services.
