What's your love story? Glen and Pam Hopkinson
It began with a woman’s sewing club, where moms brought their preschool children. This was the first meeting between this couple. He was 5, she was 3, and they met under the coffee table.
That began a friendship that saw them through grade school and into high school, where a move brought them across the street from each other and the opportunity to walk together to early morning Seminary most mornings.
He invited her on a snowy day to go sledding using an overturned car hood as a sled pulled behind a friend’s vehicle. It was all going well until it wasn’t. The sled hit a pipe culvert, and both were seriously hurt, she with both legs broken and him with a dislocated foot.
It was in the “olden days” before plates and screws would mend those femurs. Instead, it gave months in the hospital and casts. He gave up track in order to visit her during the recovery.
They dated off and on throughout high school. He left for a 2½-year mission for the LDS Church in Korea. She finished school and then attended BYU, where they reunited on his return and were engaged a few months later.
They married June 2, 1969. It was kind of a mutual decision. They are the parents of five children, 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. This year will be 57 happy Valentines together.
