Wildlife roaming the streets of Lovell
Another night and zero sleep. I think all the years of working different night shift jobs is haunting me. The good side is how quiet it is right now at 2 in the morning. The coffee is on, and I can’t sleep.
As I wrote recently, yes we have coyotes that run through town collecting cats. We have deer, does and their babies, walking down the streets. We occasionally have a pack of dogs, but they usually cause trouble and get picked up by Animal Control pretty quick.
The ones that drive me crazy are the pigeons. They are multiplying. My one neighbor at one point had put out bird feed and the number of pigeons quadrupled in a few days. Fortunately, she moved and after a few days of no freebies, the pigeons moved on. All except one or two. Arrrgggh!
I’m sure someone will correct me and tell me, “Gary, they are not pigeons, they are doves!” My neighbor Earl use to do that, so one day I finally sat him down and showed him on the Internet. They are the same freakin’ bird! In town, they are pigeons. Outside of town, they are doves.
When they are outside of town, I am happy. The ones that fly to the nearest telephone pole just sit there and coo, coo, coo, coo nonstop and drop enough white stuff to cover everything.
Fortunately, there are ways to train them without killing them. Yep, good ole Red Ryder. Not enough power to hurt them, but after you hit them a few times, the minute I walk out my door, they fly off. They learn.
The garden is almost completely planted for this year, so it is near time to deal with the weeds. No, not the kind you people smoke but the kind you get to pull and then turn around and see there are more to be pulled.
One last item. I called my ex the other day to wish her Happy Mother’s Day. I asked her, “Do ya miss me?” She responded, “With every shot so far!” Isn’t love grand?
