Winslow final Artist in Residence at Bighorn Canyon

The fourth and final Artist in Residence of 2024, Lindsey Winslow, will work at Bighorn Canyon September 23 through October 7.

I’m excited about my artist residency at Bighorn Canyon because it offers an incredible opportunity to disconnect from the hustle of everyday life. I am looking forward to the beautiful landscapes, hiking trails and abundant wildlife,” said Winslow when asked about what she was most excited for during her upcoming residency.

Winslow grew up in a rural farming community in southeast Michigan. Spending most of her childhood outside helped develop a passion for animals and art.

She now works as a biochemist, researching at a company that makes medicine for farm animals, improving their quality of life and making farming more sustainable. But she has continued to spend large amounts of time drawing and painting and finding inspiration for that artwork through hiking and photography. She photographs animals, plants and landscapes, but birds are her favorite subject. The pictures are then used to inspire her paintings.

Join Winslow for one or both of the following programs:

Guided Bird Walk (October 5 at the Lockhart Ranch, 9 a.m.) – Join AIR Winslow for a birding excursion at the Lockhart Ranch. Enjoy the scenery, spot wildlife and learn some tips and tools for bird identification. Great for the beginner birders and experts alike.

Printmaking Workshop (October 5 at the Bighorn Canyon Visitor Center, 2 p.m.) – Learn Gyotaku, a Japanese form of printmaking, and other printmaking skills with AIR Winslow at the visitor center. Use molds of local species to make beautiful artwork with this user-friendly artform.

All AIR activities are free and open to all ages and abilities. For questions, call the Bighorn Canyon Visitor Center at 307-548-5406.
