Rocky Mountain High School graduate Johnny Yellowtail has been honored with the 2024-25 Pacesetter Award.

Each year, Wyoming high schools are eligible to nominate Native American students for this award.

The winners are based on academic achievements, attendance, leadership, community service and aspirations to continue education or training after high school.

“Johnny is a proud representative of his Native American heritage, embodying the values of respect, perseverance and community,” Betsy Sammons, RMMHS principal, said. “Throughout high school he demonstrated academic dedication and served as a positive role model for his peers.”

Sammons added that Yellowtail helped arrange assemblies for RMHS to share his Native American culture and upheld his traditions with pride and inspired others to be proud of where they come from.

He was invited to a reception to honor winners on Wednesday, Aug. 13,  at Central Wyoming College’s Intertribal Education and Community Center in Riverton.

Today (Thursday), there will be an on-stage ceremony at 11 a.m. at the CWC Peck Auditorium in Riverton.

Winners will receive a certificate and other prizes in front of friends, family, school faculty, administration and staff.
