The Lovell High School junior varsity and freshman girls basketball squad had another successful week of winning basketball.

The JVs stopped Powell Thursday 45-21 and Thermopolis on Saturday 49-40. Lovell broke open the Powell game by outscoring the Lady Panthers 14-7 in the second quarter and 15-0 in the third. Morgan Harshman led a balanced scoring attack with 9 points, and Macie Anderson, Ava Edwards and Gracie Angell scored 8 each, Kaydree Owens and Brynnlee Spanier 6 apiece.

Saturday, Thermop led Lovell 32-31 after three quarter, but the Lady Bulldogs won the fourth 18-8.  Anderson scored 13 points, Edwards and Harshman 11 each, Spanier 7, Owens 3 and Jenna Hessenthaler and Kandace Asay 2 apiece.

“I was so proud of how our girls competed against Powell,” coach Jen Hessenthaler said. “We had several girls who had been out most of the week with fevers. They did not feel well, but they gave it their all. This was the first game we’ve ever played and not pressed. We focused on our half-court defense, and the girls did amazingly well. They also had very balanced scoring. They played great team basketball.

“Thermop was a very rough game. They play very physical, and it definitely impacted our game, but the girls adjusted and did a nice job. Several girls had to play positions they don’t normally play, so it was definitely a learning opportunity for us. I was proud of them for getting the job done.”

The Lovell freshmen swept Powell and Worland at home Monday and Tuesday. The Lady bulldogs clobbered Powell 59-21 Monday as Spanier scored 15 points, Harshman 14, Angell 11, Myles May 10, Anderson 6, Kelsey Mangus 2 and Kinzie Blain 1.

Lovell pounded Worland Tueaday, 59-15, as Harshman scored 15, May 13, Anderson and Spanier 10 each, Angell 9 and Blain 2.

Frosh boys

The Lovell freshman boys beat Powell Monday 62-44 as Kannon Owens scored 22 points, Mac Morgan 13, Easton Morgan 11, Mason Leithead 6, Weston Hendershot and Aaiden Walker 4 apiece, Hudson Miller 2.

Lovell beat Worland 72-43 Tuesday evening.
