Youth softball leagues wrap up
The Lovell Rec softball season wrapped up Monday evening with a game between the Amethyst Aces, coached by Jourdan May and Jordan and Angie Hitz, and the Crystal Crushers, coached by the McIntosh family. It was a game between two machine/player pitch teams.
The other team in the league was the Ruby Reds, coached by Jen Hessenthaler, Henry Sanchez and April Nicholls. The Ruby Reds’ season ended last week along with the teams from the other leagues.
The teams in this league are second through fourth graders who began the season batting pitches from a machine but learned throughout the season to pitch by themselves. In the last two games of the season, players had the opportunity to pitch after two innings of machine pitch.
The tee-ball/coach pitch league was comprised of kindergarteners and first graders to make up the Power Pearls and the Sapphire Squad. Katie Harshman, Jodi Croft and Allison Howe were the coaches for Power Pearls, and Henry and Anya Sanchez were the coaches for the Sapphire Squad.
The player pitch league was made up of fifth through seventh graders that were separated into two teams, the Blue Diamonds and the Diamond Devils, competing against teams from Powell and Cody. The teams played regular games during most of the season but ended with tournament play.
The coaches for this league were Tommy Lauhoff, Gretchen Walker and April Nicholls coaching the Blue Diamonds and Jenny Christiansen coaching the Diamond Devils. The Blue Diamonds finished off their season by going to the championship game against Powell on Thursday, June 27, winning the game 27-9.
