Homemade jams, jellies, baked goods and vegetables from the garden were part of this week’s offerings by Lovell Farmer’s Market vendor of the week Ruth Zeller and her two children Zoe, 11, and Zack, 8. The Zellers have been selling at the Lovell Farmer’s Market for four years.

“It’s a family thing that we do mostly for fun,” said Zeller. “It gets us out of the house on a Friday night and is a great opportunity to teach the kids the difference between net and gross profit.”

Zeller makes all the jams, jellies and baked goods herself. All the veggies are grown on the family’s small acreage near Lovell. She said she’s expecting a bountiful harvest of cucumbers and zucchini this year and is offering her chocolate chip zucchini bread at her table.

“It’s a good opportunity for the kids to be out talking and communicating with the public,” Zeller said. “Sharron (Nicholls) does a great job organizing and promoting it, so lots of people attend.”

The Farmer’s Market is held every Friday in Armory Park starting at 4:30 p.m., ending around 6 p.m. It began last Friday and will run through the end of September. The event has become a weekly tradition for community members looking to purchase home baked goods, tamales, empanadas, jellies, jams, 3D printed toys and fresh garden vegetables. It’s also become a gathering place to enjoy the company of friends and neighbors and to meet and greet newcomers to the community.
