Just a few random facts concerning Wyoming: Wyoming men in the World War showed by official records to be first physically. Wyoming provided more soldiers in proportion to population than any other state. Her corn yield per acre ranks above those of Oklahoma and Kansas. It is the biggest wool producing state in the union and finest trout fishing in the world. It has the largest big game herds surviving in the United States, and the largest medical hot springs in the world, flowing 20,000,000 gallons every 24 hours.

The Lovell Chronicle

Two officials of the Vaughn & Ragsdale company were killed in the plane crash which attracted national attention last Saturday when 58 people on a Northwest Airlines plane fell into Lake Michigan.

One, Leo Wahler, general manager of the company, was at one time a resident of Lovell. He came here in 1929 and served in the Lutheran parochial school for two years. He resigned in 1931 to become associated with the V-R company. His rise was rapid to store manager, then assistant to the company heads and recently general manager.

The Wyoming Highway Commission seems to have been playing ring-around-the-rosie with 14A. On June 2, it OKed a contract for a pioneer trail on 14A. On June 13 it cancelled it. In keeping with the game, last Friday the commission rescinded its decision to cancel the contract for the final portion of 14A.

Approximately 35 concerned citizens discussed at a meeting last Thursday what action should be taken on the cancellation of the contract to finish 14A. Many at the meeting volunteered to call Governor Herschler’s office in Cheyenne.

“Dick Skinner (of the governor’s office) received many phone calls from all over the state,” Senator Cal Taggart said Monday. He said chairman of the highway commission Bob Ostlund’s phone rang all day from concerned persons in Lovell and Powell. Apparently, these phone calls did some good.

Mark and Ramona Sorenson of Deaver have announced the upcoming marriage of their daughter Julie to Pat Winland, son of Ralph and Robyn Winland of Lovell. The couple will be married July 15, 2000, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lovell.

Julie is a 1998 graduate of Rocky Mountain High School. She is attending Northwest College majoring in physical education. Pat is a 1992 graduate of Lovell High School. He is an elementary teacher in Frannie. The couple will make their home in Lovell.

For photographer Ron Salyer it was the terrifying thought of losing his vision as a result of a chronic medical condition that shocked him into seeing the world around him in all of its grandeur. … But when he woke up one day in July of 2013 with eyes nearly swollen shut and double vision, he saw several doctors in one day and was diagnosed with the disease Sarcoidosis. Fortunately, he did not lose his vision. Instead, he was graced with a renewed appreciation for the beauty of the world around him.
