The Cowley Progress

We read with a feeling of mixed pleasure and regret the editorial of adieu from Mr. Vaterlaus, pleasure at the nice things he has so ably and graciously said of us and regret at seeing Mr. Vaterlaus sever his connection with a paper that he has served as owner and editor in such faithful and efficient manner for these many years.

Wyoming’s total of Freedom Scroll signers has already topped the 60,000 mark, far exceeding the expectations of Crusade of Freedom committeemen. Dr. G.D. Humphrey, president of the University of Wyoming and state chairman of the Crusade, expects Wyoming to have the highest percentage of signers per population in the nation. Nearly $10,000 in contributions has been received to aid Radio Free Europe in lifting the Communistic Iron Curtain from Europe’s enslaved peoples.

Downtown Lovell is growing. Jesse Morrison, formerly of Powell, is opening J&I Auto Parts here this month. Morrison plans to stock a complete line of parts and offer other services, as well.

Coast to Coast now is open in its new location on the north side of Main. The new facility has been completely remodeled, according to owner Bud Mills. It features almost double the store’s former floor space and is now one of Lovell’s largest. Jim’s TV has knocked out a wall and added 160 square feet in the west half of its building. The new area will feature appliances.

Paul Larson is not a native son of the Big Horn Basin. He chose Lovell for his home when he retired. Paul never wonders what to do with his free time. Recently he has become an avid photographer. About 10 years ago his wife, Ann, and his son, Scott, put their heads together and got him a good 35 mm camera with a medium format as a gift. He started taking pictures … and more pictures. He has an eye for the unusual and the beautiful.

A new elevator at the end of the east wing of the Lovell Stake Center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will soon be in operation to give people a lift to the second floor. “The elevator from the ThyssenKrupp elevator company is scheduled to be delivered November 16, followed by three weeks of installation,” said Greg Rael, general contractor for Synergy Construction.
