Sheriff report: Jewelry theft in Cowley under investigation

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of February 16-22:

February 16: 2:16 a.m. – Extra patrol was conducted at Deaver Irrigation in the wake of the theft of gasoline from the company’s yard in previous weeks.

9:54 p.m. – A Cowley resident on South First East reported the theft of jewelry from a home. The case is under investigation.

 11:40 a.m. – A deputy assisted near the site of blasting in the Sidon Canal northwest of Byron, helping make sure no citizens were in the area of the work.

February 17: 1:37 a.m. – A deputy assisted at the scene in a case of a reported domestic disturbance on East Main in Lovell.

February 19: 8:32 a.m. – On a snowy morning, a deputy started to respond to a report of a vehicle slide-off near Frannie, but the incident took place north of the state line, and the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office was on scene.

5:04 p.m. – A caller complained about a truck parked along Road 18 near Lovell for several days. The truck was there for a tree trimming company performing a trimming job.

5:59 p.m. – A deputy stopped to assist a driver whose semi was having mechanical troubles on U.S. 310 about five miles south of Lovell. The truck had blown a radiator hose, and the deputy assisted the driver in re-attaching the hose enough to move the truck off the highway.

7:38 p.m. – A deputy gave the driver in the above call a ride to town to purchase antifreeze, but at that hour the proper antifreeze could not be found, so a service truck was called.

February 20: 11:54 a.m. – A deputy checked on a slow moving vehicle just east of Lovell and discovered it was a repo company driving slowly because the camper the company just repossessed had a slide-out that would not fully retract.

2:44 p.m. – The sheriff office K9 sniffed two vehicles at the request of the Lovell Police Department.

7:03 p.m. – A deputy investigated a report of threats made at a home on Road 14½ east of Lovell. The dispute between a male and female was verbal, with nothing physical. The male had left the residence by the time a deputy responded.

February 22: 2:59 p.m. – A caller on Lane 8 near Cowley reported a lost dog but called two hours later to report that the family had found the wayward pet.

3:14 p.m. – A caller reported a grey Chevy Silverado with Michigan plates speeding in the area of Blue Hill on U.S. 310 south of Lovell. A deputy followed the vehicle as far as Cowley and could discover no violations.

8:47 p.m. – Four or five horses running loose five miles west of Byron made their way past the county line,  where a Park County deputy dealt with the animals.

Note: The above calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
