The Cowley Progress

Thursday evening, April 22, “Kindling” will be presented under the auspices of the M.K.A. This wonderful story portrays some of the most beautiful fundamental principles of life. 

A new, permanent stage front is being put in the church house – $150 for new lights, a beautiful new curtain costing $80 is being installed as well as new scenery. But aside from this, the play is worth double the admission we ask, 50¢ and 25¢, because every penny comes back to you in new improvements in the Ward Hall.

The play has been superbly cast, which includes such well known actors as Virga Porter as leading lady, supported by Parnell Black, Wyoming Hinckley, Kimball Cranney, Vinetta Robertson, Ray D. Garner, Hazel Tebbs, George Frost and C. Golden Welch.

Helen Hutton and Ed Regnier were married Sunday afternoon by the Rev. Crosmer of Powell at the Donovan Neville home. A wedding dinner followed the ceremony. Following the dinner the couple left for a week’s honeymoon trip. Mrs. Regnier is assistant cashier at First National Bank. Mr. Regnier, who saw overseas duty in the Pacific theater during World War II, is employed by the Lovell Clay Products Co.

Anna’s column: I was surprised that the coloring of eggs began way back in the 13^th century by the Persians and Egyptians. The first Christians to use colored eggs were the Macedonians. They dyed their eggs red, symbolizing the blood of Christ shed on the cross.

Today the egg rolling contest common in our land seems to have little to do with the Lord’s resurrection, but the origins of such customs can be traced to the early commemorations of the rolling away of the stone in front of Christ’s tomb. Easter egg customs are now common in all Christian lands except Spain, Mexico and South America.

Born on April 1, 1899, and having passed away on April 14, 2001, Rose Griffin Doty has lived in three centuries. Rose was born in Burlington, the daughter of William S. Griffin and Sally Perry. She lived in Byron from the time she was a year old. She celebrated her 102^nd birthday just 13 days before she died.

Denise Andersen, the longtime director of the North Big Horn Senior Citizens Center, thought she was attending Saturday night’s Lovell Area Chamber of Commerce Spring Dinner and Awards Banquet to introduce President Janet Koritnik prior to her president’s speech. Little did she know when presenter LaVerne Thatch went to the podium that she would be honored as Citizen of the Year.

A man known as an outstanding farmer, a great neighbor, a leader in his church and a man of his word was honored as the Farmer/Rancher of the Year by the Lovell Area Chamber of Commerce Saturday. Stan Asay was nominated by chamber board member Ben Zeller, who noted Asay’s operation of a long held family ranch, his expansion of the operation over the years, his church service, his role as a caring and helpful neighbor and how easy he is to work with.
