Byron News: A new face at Byron town hall
It seems we just got to know Tomy (Graves) Pluhar at town hall when an upcoming family move whisked her away from us. Tomy and husband Curt are embracing the opportunity to return to Curt’s family ranch in Cohagen, Montana, just 70 miles north of Miles City.
You may remember a few months back when their twin boys left for missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jace in Barbados and Jaxon in Uruguay. We hope we will see the family again when the young men return home and give a talk in church. Until then, we wish them well and invite them to return for Byron Days to celebrate with us. They have sold their home, and we will meet the new owners soon.
Tomy’s move left a vacant spot at town hall for an office and court clerk. It was good to stop in and visit new clerk Sandie Morris. She and husband Tony have lived in Byron several years. Their children, now grown, Kelsea and Kevin Mayfield, attended school at the old Byron building and graduated from Rocky Mountain in Cowley. Tony has retired as a tow truck driver, and Sandie worked for years in Cody and retired as Park County Solid Waste Department assistant landfill manager.
Sandie’s days started at sunrise and ended at evening with her daily drive to Cody. She wasn’t out and about town much. You may remember seeing her at the Byron Days parade with her large white cockatoo named Lucy Bird, who didn’t want to be in the parade but liked walking alongside, watching the other participants. She was a familiar sight to many.
In addition to being our new clerk, Sandie also has a side job working for Peak Environmental out of Green River. She works remotely and does clerical and document building.
Sandie is an animal lover, having two dogs and two cats as well as neighborhood chickens, who wander into the yard and have become friends with the dogs, and two ducks, who joined the family to take advantage of the water in the ditches as their personal swimming pool.
Stop in and introduce yourself to Sandie, and while you are there, take a few minutes to peruse the America 250 Celebration display that Mayor Allan and Cindy Clark put together. Take a few extra minutes and wander down to the museum and see what you can learn about our town founding. The museum is full of treasures carefully curated by Harriet and Dwayne Jackson and Denney and Linda NeVille. For special or group viewings, contact the NeVilles through town hall at 307-548-7490.
