The Lovell Chronicle

Miss Rebecca Allred and Dean Walker were united in marriage at the LDS temple in Idaho Falls May 21. They were accompanied to the Idaho city by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orvel Allred, and the groom’s mother, Mrs. Helen Walker.

The bride is a graduate of Lovell High School Class of ‘51, and Mr. Walker graduated here in 1950. He is assisting his mother on their farm, where the couple will make their home.

Sheldon Carter, formerly of Byron, graduated this May from the University of Wyoming law school. Carter received a juris doctor degree May 16 on the UW campus. Carter is married to the former Shelly Sessions of Lovell. He is the son of Norval and Alice Carter of Byron.

Matthew Dillon, who will be a senior next year at Lovell High School, has been selected to participate in the Earthwatch Institute’s 2001 Challenge Award Program. Dillon and 73 other high school students from 40 states will receive an all expense paid trip to various locations to do scientific research in hydrogeology, working under college professors from various parts of the country.

A decision to take a few summer courses at the University of Seattle and a side trip to a boat show in Canada led a Lovell couple to a lifelong hobby of restoring exquisitely crafted wooden boats. What the couple (Ron and Kathy McClure) discovered at the Victoria Wooden Boat Festival was a subculture of boat enthusiasts and collectors. For the next 20 or so years they became part of that subculture.

McClure confessed that by the end of that summer afternoon, he was hooked. After that, he said, “It was just a matter of going back to Wyoming, gathering our possessions, moving to the coast and finding an antique wooden boat.” The couple returned to the Big Horn Basin 20 years later and by then they had already owned and completely restored more than a half dozen classic wooden boats.
