Sheriff report: Mail delivery vehicle overturns near Lovell

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of June 8-14:

June 8: 11:34 a.m. – A bear was reported on Wyoming Highway 114 west of Deaver. There was no sign of bear activity or disturbed livestock in Big Horn County, and the bear reportedly may have moved to the Polecat Creek area in Park County.

June 9: 12:10 a.m. – A deputy assisted a motorist at Frog Rock on Road 5 south of Cowley. No further information was available.

5:26 p.m. – A female Wirehaired Griffon with a pink collar was reported missing east of Lovell near the Game and Fish shop on Highway 37. Dispatch took the information in case someone spotted the dog and called in.

June 10: 7:30 a.m. – A deputy assisted the Wyoming Highway Patrol with a fence to keep cows from getting out on U.S. 14A just northeast of Byron.

10:23 a.m. – A car crash detection alert just west of Cowley came from a phone dropped from a side-by-side.

1:12 p.m. – in an ongoing issue, a caller on Road 1 near Frannie complained of a neighbor’s dogs constantly barking. A deputy spoke to the dog owners and informed them to keep their dogs quiet or face possible breach of peace charges.

4 p.m. – A REDDI report was called in regarding a grey Ford Super duty pickup “all over the road” and speeding off and on near Deaver. The Wyoming Highway Patrol was advised, as no deputy was in the area at the time.

June 11: 12:27 a.m. – Following a phoned-in REDDI alert regarding a red Chevy truck “swerving all over the road,” a deputy made contact with the driver on U.S. 310 at Road 9 near Lovell, who said he was “just cruising his way to work.”

5:21 a.m. – A deputy made contact with a man reportedly walking down the highway on U.S. 310 near Lovell. The man checked out OK.

June 12: 12 noon – An employee at Good 2 Go reported a gas drive-off. A deputy made contact with the individual, who said he did pay for the gas. It turned out to be a clerk’s error.

2:01 p.m. – A substitute mail delivery employee of the U.S. Postal Service suffered minor injuries after her Australian-made 1996 Toyota Hilux with a right-side steering wheel hit some loose gravel on the side of County Road 12½ southeast of Lovell, went off the edge of a dry irrigation canal and turned over on its side. Driver Ami Doren, 21, of Byron was evaluated at the scene, then transported by ambulance to North Big Horn Hospital for further evaluation.

Deputies and a highway patrolman removed mail that came out of the vehicle during the crash, and the Lovell postmaster finished the route.

4:07 p.m. – A man from Switzerland reported that a rock from a passing truck broke the window of his rental car near the Big Horn Lake causeway east of Lovell. He needed a law enforcement report for the rental company.

7:03 p.m. – Deputies and the Deaver-Frannie Fire Department responded to a one-vehicle rollover about three miles north of the Montana state line near Warren. The Bridger Police Department was also on scene as responders waited to turn the investigation over to the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office or the Montana Highway Patrol.

7:24 p.m. – A caller in Frannie reported a suspicious Ford pickup driving slowly by a residence, then parking at a substation before driving away a short time later. A deputy discovered the truck was occupied by a male and female trying to find a private place to park.

11:55 p.m. – A deputy assisted Lovell police with a report of an alarm going off in Lovell.

June 13: 7:12 p.m. – A caller requested help with retrieving a vehicle left on private property for two years and then towed. The matter is civil in nature.

June 14: 1:07 p.m. – A caller reported a male and two females in a heated argument alongside the highway about two miles east of Deaver on U.S. 310. The trio had left by the time a deputy reached the location.
