Town candidates advance to the General Election

Although all candidates for municipal office in North Big Horn County advance to the Wyoming General Election in November, results from Tuesday’s Primary Election give an indication of voter preferences, with plenty of time for candidates to campaign ahead of the General.

Two candidates per seat advance to the November 3 General Election for mayor and council seats.

In Lovell, incumbent Dan Anderson topped the ticket in the race for two seats on the town council, receiving 353 votes, unofficially, to edge councilman Bob Mangus, who received 348. Jason Sumaya garnered 219 votes, Jeff McCollam 179.

Tom Newman was unopposed for mayor and received 558 votes. There were 26 write-in votes cast.

All five candidates advance to the General.

In Byron, Brandon Hessenthaler topped a field of three candidates for two seats on the town council, receiving 113 votes. Incumbent Shae Abraham received 102 votes, challenger Taliesha Beech 52. Mayor Alan Clark received 136 votes. All four candidates will be on the ballot in November.

Town councilman Scott Crosby topped the ticket in Cowley, receiving 218 votes for one of two seats on the council. Dexter Woodis received 176 votes, Rose Ames 97. Stephen Winters received 204 votes for mayor, and there were 57 write-in votes cast, pointing to a likely opponent for Winters in November.

There were three candidates for town office in Deaver. Mayor Bill Camp received 51 votes, council members Shauna Crouch and Kayla James 39 and 35 votes, respectively. Stephen Gillett, who died several weeks ago but was still on the ballot, received 20 votes for a two-year seat on the council, and there were nine write-in votes.

There were just three candidates in Frannie, and all will advance to the General. Mayor Garret Frescoln received 36 votes, and council member Keara Poole garnered 34 votes in Big Horn County and three in Park, while councilman Guy DeSantis received 30 votes in Big Horn County and three in Park. There were 13 write-in votes for a two-year seat on the council for which no one had filed.
