BLM invites volunteers to National Public Lands Day event at Rainbow Canyon
The Bureau of Land Management Cody Field Office invites community members and volunteers to celebrate National Public Lands Day by helping improve the Rainbow Canyon Interpretive Site near Lovell on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
National Public Lands Day is an opportunity for volunteers, families, community groups and public land users to come together and give back to the public lands they enjoy. Volunteers at Rainbow Canyon will work alongside BLM staff on several improvements designed to enhance the site and make it more accessible and enjoyable for visitors.
Planned projects include construction of an accessible trail using crusher fines, installation of a small trail crossing, installation of a new shade shelter, vegetation removal and other improvements around the interpretive site.
“This is a great opportunity for the community to come together, give back to their public lands and make improvements that visitors will be able to enjoy for years to come,” said Rick Tryder, Outdoor Recreation Planner. “The work completed by volunteers during National Public Lands Day makes a real difference, and we appreciate everyone who is willing to lend a hand.”
Volunteers should come prepared to work outdoors and are asked to bring work gloves, sunscreen and plenty of water, and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes or work boots. Participants should also dress appropriately for changing weather conditions.
The BLM will provide refreshments and snacks throughout the event, as well as the tools and materials needed to complete the projects. Each volunteer will also receive a National Public Lands Day T-shirt and a National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) fee-free federal public lands pass as a thank you for their service.
National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event for public lands. Each year, volunteers across the country participate in projects that restore and improve recreation areas, trails and other public lands while celebrating the places they help care for.
