Six Bulldogs receive postseason honors

A strong 6-3 season and a berth in the Class 2A playoffs helped produce six all-conference selections, three of which are also all-state picks, coach Nicc Crosby announced this week.
Crosby also announced five honorable mention all-conference players.
Named to the Class 2A All-State Team were seniors Adnan Khan and Jared Mangus and junior Davin Crosby. Joining the trio on the 2A West All-Conference Team were seniors Carson Asay and Blake Wilson and junior Braxton Felkins.

Dauntless Dash unseasonably mild for runners

A duo of boys sprinted to the finish to try to win the Dauntless Dash mile Saturday on a mild November morning.
Lovell Elementary students Kayan Owens and Paxton Herd were running within half a meter of eachother until the final leg of the race. Running through the crisp air and broad sunlight of late November, the race was undecided until a few feet before the finish line.

Moss, Boettcher and Wambeke named all-conference for Lady Grizz volleyball

MacKelle Moss, Brittly Boettcher and Shelby Wambeke have received all-conference recognition for their play on the Rocky Mountain volleyball team this year.
It is the second consecutive year Moss and Boettcher have been named to the all-conference team.

Erika Cook signs with UW for golf

In less than a year, Erika Cook overcame a car crash, won a fourth state title and signed a generous offer to play golf for the University of Wyoming.
Cook was drawn to the school because of the coach.
“I liked the coach. Yeah, I got to know her a lot this year,” she said. “The offer, it was just, it made the most sense.”

Lady Mustangs fall to Powell, top Thermop

The Lovell eighth-grade Lady Mustang A team split a pair of games this week, falling to Powell Monday at home and beating Thermopolis Tuesday, both contests at home. Similarly, the seventh-grade squad split with Powell and Thermop on the road.
Powell topped the Lady Bulldogs in Monday’s eighth-grade A game, 42-23.

Doyle Memorial Singles Scratch Tournament held at Rose City Lanes

The eleventh annual Doyle Moncur Memorial Singles Scratch Tournament, which honors late Lovell bowler Doyle “Smoothie” Moncur, was held on Sunday, Nov. 5.
Forty-seven entrants from Wyoming and Montana competed in the tournament. In order to qualify, bowlers had to be 18 or over, out of school and an active member of the United States Bowling Congress. The top qualifier was Ryan Wells of Cowley with a score of 982. After two qualifying shifts, the players were cut to 32 for match play.

Grizzly grapplers place six in top two places

The strong fall season for the Rocky Mountain Middle School wrestling team continued in Worland Saturday as the Grizzlies recorded three champions and three runners-up at the Brawl in the Basin Tournament.
Three Grizz wrestled to individual titles Saturday: seventh grader Benson Jolley and eighth graders Cashe Thompson and Alex Walker. Placing second were eighth grader Zach Unruh, Mason Richardson and sixth grader Hudson Moore.

Lovell Mustangs power through the brackets

On Tuesday, Nov. 7, the Lovell Mustang wrestlers continued their season by attending a dual against the Powell Panthers.
“It was fun to see some of the kids experience a dual for the first time,” head coach Joey Bassett said. “It is a different kind of atmosphere I think the kids needed to experience.”

Lady Grizz top Burlington after Shoshoni sweep

For the second time this season, the Rocky Mountain Lady Grizzlies struggled against Shoshoni, dropping two games at home to the Lady Blue on Saturday.
Shoshoni won the A game 41-13 and the B game 33-18.
In the A game, Shoshoni built a 19-8 halftime lead, then shut out the Lady Grizz 13-0 in the third to take a commanding 32-8 lead into the final quarter. A 9-5 advantage in the fourth gave Shoshoni the 28-point win.
Annie Crosby led Rocky in scoring with 8 points, and Kennedy Brimhall added 3 points, Leah Haslem 2.
