The Lovell Mustangs C all-star team played strong baseball as host of the American Legion Class C State Tournament in Cowley over the weekend, although they didn’t put a check in the win column, dropping two close games.
Thursday night, the Mustangs fell to a strong Laramie team, 3-1, and in a loser-out game Friday afternoon, the home squad fell to Douglas 10-9.
Game one Thursday was a pitchers’ duel as Lovell starter Kyson Crosby went toe to toe with a trio of Laramie hurlers.

Great stock, great athletes, hot temperatures, torrential rains, ravaging winds and a big day of rodeo is how organizers described this year’s annual Pioneer Day Rodeo, held Saturday.
This was the 75th year the rodeo has been held at the Cowley Rodeo Grounds. The Cowley Riding Club organizes the event.
It was notable this year that some riders had to literally cowboy-up and weather a storm that hit during the event, which eventually caused a 30-minute delay until the worst of it passed.
