Rocky girls basketball program builds character

Being a good basketball player goes beyond shining on the court, said Justin Moss, head girls basketball coach at Rocky Mountain High School, who is newly minted in the head coaching role. “To be good humans. People that look out for each other and care about people and, really, just be pillars in this society is what we look for,” Moss said. “We’ve kind of had some great people come through our program that are just doing wonderful things in their world after they’ve gone through our Rocky Mountain Grizzly program.”

Whiting takes reins of RMHS wrestling program

There’s a new coach at the helm of the Rocky Mountain High School wrestling program, and roster numbers are up as the new season begins.
Eddie Whiting takes over this year from longtime coach Daniel Robertson, bringing years of experience as both a competitor and coach.
“How I knew coaching was my gig was in high school when I got to coach Little Grizz,” Whiting said. “The kindergarten class, boy they were a bunch of head and arm hunters (everyone that knows me knows I hate a head and arm). But that started my passion for coaching.

The Lovell Mustangs sprang into action at a tournament in Laurel, Montana, last Saturday.
“The meet went good with there being 27 teams and 400 kids from across Montana and Wyoming attending,” coach Joey Bassett said.
The team saw new opponents and fought hard to gain a place in their brackets. Bassett wanted to show appreciation for sixth grader Wyatt Blank for his good sportsmanship this weekend, which the referee highlighted him for.

Continuing their recent run of success, the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies placed third at the Shoshoni Junior High Wrestling Tournament in Shoshoni Friday.
The Grizz scored 171 points to finish behind only Glenrock and Thermopolis and placed ahead of Wyoming Indian, Fort Washakie, Greybull/Riverside, Wind River, Arapahoe, Shoshoni and Dubois.

The Rocky Mountain Lady Grizzlies played a flurry of games this week ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, meeting Powell, Riverside and Greybull.
Thursday at home, the ‘A’ squad – mostly eighth graders – fell to Powell 44-8, and the B team fell 31-16.
Kennedy Brimhall scored 4 points in the A game for Rocky, Annie Crosby and Brooklyn Larsen 2 each.
