I was going through the seasonal aisle at a local store recently, idly observing the Easter candy display:  jellybeans, Cadbury eggs, Peeps, chocolate bunnies, chocolate T-Rex -- WHAT? A chocolate dinosaur? Wait a minute. When did dinosaurs become an Easter icon?

Transitioning to become a parent can be one of the most pivotal changes in a person’s life. Rarely are the hard moments of this change talked about enough. For example, did you know 1 in 5 women and 1 in 10 men suffer from postpartum depression? Parents of any culture, race, age or income level can be affected. We commonly hear and get confused about postpartum depression being the “baby blues.” This is a common misconception. The baby blues are very common and happen to 80% of women in postpartum. This occurs within the first few days and lasts a few weeks.

The ‘French’ Connection
Local sports rivalries can oftentimes prioritize the need to show sportsmanship to those we oppose.
The contrary happened this past weekend.
At the 3A/4A state basketball tournament in Casper, the pep band from Cody High School attended every Lovell boys game and performed as if they were supporting their own team.
Not only did they play upbeat tunes during timeouts, they cheered along to encourage defensive stands and offensive charges.

Dear Editor,
It was so neat to have the Cody Pep Band at the tournament and to attend our Lovell games. They even played our school song several times. It added so much to the spirit!

My father passed away just after Thanksgiving in 2020 and Christmas was not going to be the most joyful time for our family. The Croft and Welch families came to our house and lined both sides of our street with cars on Christmas Eve and rang our doorbell and sang several Christmas songs to us. We were so touched and no one had ever done anything like that for us before. When kindness is unexpected, that makes it even better.

“No man is an island, entire of itself, every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.” This is the beginning of a poem from 1624. In it, the poet John Donne appreciates how humans are all connected. Indeed, humans are social beings, and social connection is a factor in our health.
We all know the importance of a healthy diet and exercise for our health. We are getting better at understanding the importance of mental health. One thing we do not discuss much, however, are the benefits of social connection.

UW in Your Community event cements strong ties to the university

Wyoming has been described as one big town with really long streets, signifying the close-knit relationships among Wyoming people and communities.
One of those long streets leads to Laramie, home of the University of Wyoming. Though I’m not a UW alum, I’ve always been a huge Wyoming Cowboys fan and a supporter of our lone university, and I’ve always appreciated the ties among UW and our communities.
