North Big Horn Rams claim first in freestyle at home meet

This past Saturday the North Big Horn Rams Wrestling Club welcomed 13 other teams to their home mats for a tournament at the Johnny Winterholler Gymnasium. The folkstyle portion of the tournament took place in the morning, and a handful of local wrestlers managed to reign at the top of their brackets. Overall, the club took fourth place as a team with 168.5 points.
Cotey Smith went undefeated in the 8U 49-pound division, pinning two of his opponents and beating his final opponent by an 8-7 decision.

Bulldogs claim consolation crown at 3A State Basketball

For the first time in more than 40 years, the Lovell Bulldogs can proudly display a trophy from the state basketball tournament for Class 3A.
The Bulldogs claimed the rare feat by winning two of three games at the tournament March 7-9 in Casper, capturing the consolation championship.
Lovell opened the tournament Thursday evening with a disappointing performance at the Ford Wyoming Center as the second seeded (West) Bulldogs fell to Wheatland (East third seed) 43-41 in overtime.

Khan places in three events at Indoor Track

The State Indoor Track and Field Championships is the culminating event for the athletes and the opportunity to finish the season with their best performances of the year. For the Lovell indoor track and field athletes, the state meet held in Gillette on March 1 and 2 provided them with the perfect blend of exciting atmosphere and tough competition to turn in some new personal best performances and cap off a very successful season.

Three Lady Grizz all-conference, Bassett all-state

A strong 16-12 season and a berth in the state tournament garnered the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies three selections to the Class 2A Northwest All-Conference team, along with one all-state team selection.
Sophomore Lauren Bassett was chosen for the Class 2A All-State team, and she is joined on the all-conference team by senior MacKelle Moss and junior Shelby Wambeke.

Three Grizzlies receive postseason honors

Rocky Mountain High School boys basketball coach Pat Winland announced last week that two members of the Grizzly basketball team have been named to the Class 2A Northwest All-Conference team, with one honorable mention honoree, as well.
Junior guards Bryce Haslem and Cole Minchow were named all-conference, and junior forward Lafe Files received honorable mention recognition.

The North Big Horn Rams wrestling club traveled to Thermopolis on Saturday to compete at Wrestleopolis in both folkstyle and freestyle.
In folkstyle, the Rams faced some tough competition overall and finished in 10th place as a team.
The lone champion was Cayden Dickerson in the 10U 49-53 division where he went 4-0 in the bracket.

Successful middle school swim season ends at conference

The Powell Middle School swimming and diving team finished its short season March 9 at the Yellowstone Conference championship meet. The athletes continued to show improvement through the season with 39 personal best times at conference meet.

Lady Grizz drop two at state tournament

It was a short stay at the Class 2A State Tournament for the Rocky Mountain Lady Grizzlies this year, as the Lady Grizz struggled to produce points against a pair of strong defensive opponents.
Rocky fell to top-ranked, East Region number one seed and eventual state champion Tongue River 37-26 Thursday morning at Casper College and to West Region second seed Kemmerer 46-26 Friday morning at the Ford Wyoming Center.

The 3A West Regional Tournament took place in Thermopolis last week with eight teams vying to advance to the state tournament in Casper.
In the hunt were the second-seeded Lovell Lady Bulldogs from the North.
In the opening round, the Lady Bulldogs faced off against the third seed from the South, the Lyman Lady Eagles.
Lyman was a familiar foe that Lovell had beaten easily only a couple of weeks prior to the tournament.
